Smarter Girls

About Us:
Math & Science Day Camp for Girls started in 2004 as a weekend camping experience. Five teachers taught fifteen students in one room at a campground facility. The days were filled with learning and the nights were filled with restless pre-teens. Although our first try at camp was good, we wanted to make it even better. We decided on a different format: Day Camp with many more hands-on exercises as well as plenty of breaks for students and teachers. We also moved the camp to a more "math and science oriented" facility- Kettering University.

The second year of camp was a smashing success. Many students wanted to come back for a third day! We again followed the successful format in 2006 and enlarged camp to 32 students. In 2007 we again expanded camp by adding a third day for the students and in 2008 day camp expanded to 2 weekends in the summer for a total of 4 days of fun.

In March of 2007, Smarter Girls, an educational charity, was formally organized to position the camp for grants and other funding and to allow us to expand with our needs.

To date, Smarter Girls has engaged over 150 female STEM role models as camp volunteer teachers and has served over 340 girls in the southeast Michigan area. We are very proud of the impact we are making!
